ISD’s Jacob Davey highlights terrorism’s evolution since 7/7 bombings on BBC Radio Wales

Jacob Davey, ISD’s Director of Policy & Research, Counter-Hate, spoke to BBC Radio Wales on Monday, describing how the terrorist landscape has shifted in the 20 years since the 7/7 London bombings. 

He explains that while Islamist extremism still makes up most of the UK’s casework, new groups have emerged throughout the rise of the digital age. Far-right and ideologically ambiguous groups pose growing threat, promoting hate and violence through online communities. 

Jacob also highlights the monumental role that social media will continue to play in the shaping the evolving threat landscape. 

“In many ways, their business models are set up to promote material which provokes us, which gets us angry, which keep our eyes on the screen,” he said. “We see that playing into the hands of extremists from across the ideological spectrum.”
