Kremlin and far-right tactics fuel online attacks on German Chancellor Merz

ISD analyst Pablo Maristany de las Casas spoke with the German DPA news agency (German Press Agency) about the potential sources behind a surge in disinformation targeting German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his party, the center-right Christian Democrats. He said the false claims, including fake videos and fabricated policy assertions, may originate from actors linked to the Kremlin who oppose Merz’s support for Ukraine, as well as far-right users frustrated with his migration stance and refusal to align with the AfD.
